US sanctions Russian oil giants after Trump-Putin talks cancelled | ABC NEWS

The US has slapped Russia’s two largest oil corporations Rosneft and Lukoil with sanctions over Moscow’s refusal to end the war in Ukraine.
US President Donald Trump announced the move during a meeting with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte, as he publicly acknowledged more heavy-handed measures are needed to force Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin’s hand.
Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy has hailed the White House’s push and flagged the possibility of ceding territory to Russia to achieve Trump’s vision of peace in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, The Kremlin carried out missile launch exercises which simulated the deployment of nuclear warheads, one day after the US president called off a planned summit with the Russian leader in Budapest.
