‘Unacceptable rule’: Pete Heseth urged to ‘back down’ on restrictive press policy

United States Studies Centre’s Dr Harry Melkonian reacts to “unacceptable” new demands from the Pentagon, which limit the scope of what journalists can report on.

“From a journalist’s standpoint, regardless of where they stand politically, it’s simply an unacceptable rule,” Mr Melkonian said.

“At the end of the day, the government needs the journalists as much as the journalists need the government, so there’s going to have to be an accommodation made … the government’s going to have to back down.”
