Iran’s self-destruct sequence continues after executing groom for protesting
The Foreign Desk Editor-in-Chief Lisa Daftari analyses Iran’s execution of a man who protested against the regime hours after his marriage.
“This is just … one colourful anecdote that vividly describes the brutality of this regime,” Ms Daftari told News24 Digital Presenter Gabriella Power.
“Something that we don’t talk about is … tens of thousands of Iranians were massacred in January solely for coming out and protesting for their freedom.
“Don’t forget that this is the number one state executioner and an average of three Iranians are executed per day in Iran.
“You’re dealing with a regime that does not have mercy on its own people, on its best
and its brightest … this is the future of the country that they are killing.”
