Coalition to cut 650k temporary visas over four years | ABC NEWS

Opposition Leader Angus Taylor has unveiled the Coalition’s migration policy, claiming it will bring migration numbers below levels seen under the Howard government.

Mr Taylor says the proposal would result in the “biggest cut to immigration in the history of the country”.

The plan would reduce the number of temporary visa holders by around 650,000 over four years.

He says the Coalition will abolish temporary graduate visas and instead focus on people who are qualified to come to Australia.

The Coalition says it will cut international student commencements to 240,000. It wants to reduce the share of international students at universities to below 25 per cent.

Mr Taylor says the Coalition has been working closely with the Parliamentary Budget Office (PBO) on budget analysis and is “confident” the measures are budget neutral and will strengthen the economy.
