Research has found 90 per cent of marine fish sold by major retailers in the United States are wild-caught. The stunning statistic includes threatened and endangered species.
The issue is relevant for Australia, given it’s a major exporter and importer of marine aquarium fish.
Marine ecologist at the Thriving Oceans Research Hub at the University of Sydney, Dr Bing Lin led the research. He says consumers are often unaware, raising questions about the ethical catching and selling of fish in stores and online.
