The Tennessee governor has halted executions in the state hours after an inmate survived a lethal injection attempt.
Christa Gail Pike was on death row since she was convicted and sentenced to death in 1996 for the torture and murder of her teenage classmate, Colleen Slemmer.
UN Special Rapporteur Morris Tidball-Binz described the method of execution by lethal injection as “a form of torture” and argued that there is “no humane method of execution”.
