Nepal hit again by landslides, floods and avalanche

Nepal is experiencing landslides and floods in multiple areas around the country following a period of heavy rain, leaving at least 21 people dead, several missing. Roads have also been washed out and infrastructure destroyed, leaving residents cut off from essential services.

Separately, rescuers have recovered four bodies from the site of an avalanche in north Nepal after a climbing group and staff were buried under the base camp of the Himlung Himal peak, according to the Nepal National Mountain Guide Association. Authorities have confirmed two people have died and at least a dozen remain missing as rescue efforts continue.

These incidents come a month after catastrophic flash floods hit Nepal due to a glacier collapse, which killed more than 1,600 people, left thousands missing and destroyed entire villages.

Nepal, a largely rural nation of 30 million people that has contributed little to the greenhouse gas emissions driving global warming, says reconstruction could cost billions of dollars.

Its economy is already under pressure, with limited resources to respond to disasters of this scale.
