Victoria to introduce Jack’s Law knife scanning powers | 7NEWS

Victoria’s Royal Commission into the construction sector will commence next week at Melbourne Magistrates Court, with proceedings live-streamed to the public. The inquiry is expected to take 18 months. Premier Ben Carroll has announced Victoria will introduce Jack’s Law, giving police powers to scan anyone anywhere in public for knives using metal detector wands. The law is named after 17-year-old Jack Beasley, who died in a random stabbing at Surfers Paradise in 2019, and has been adopted by all other Australian states.
