NSW seatbelt fines surge 2,400 percent with AI cameras | 7NEWS

Seatbelt fines in New South Wales have increased by almost 2,400 percent, with over 88 percent of violations involving improperly worn seatbelts and nearly 12 percent involving no seatbelt at all. The surge is attributed to new AI-powered cameras that detected approximately 132,000 more violations compared to the previous year. The fines, averaging $400 and three demerit points each, have generated around $50 million for the state government, which claims the revenue is reinvested into road safety programs.
