Emotional Ave Maria tribute to 9/11 victims moves GOP convention to tears
A stirring rendition of Franz Schubert’s Ave Maria has moved first responders, families and loved ones of 9/11 victims to tears during an emotional tribute at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas.
Tenor Christopher Macchio, a frequent performer at events featuring President Donald Trump, performed the piece on Thursday as those honoured gathered on stage during a solemn procession marking the anniversary.
Day two of the convention continues, with Trump set to headline the Republican National Committee’s first-ever midterm convention and deliver an address at around 11:45am AEST. Vice President JD Vance is speaking before the President takes the stage.
The convention aims to highlight the Trump administration’s achievements and rally support for GOP candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
