US Marines faced deadly Iranian mines in secret mission to clear Strait of Hormuz
US forces secretly carried out a perilous four-month mission to hunt down and destroy Iranian mines in the Strait of Hormuz.
Navy SEAL divers worked mostly at night alongside drone boats, underwater craft and sonar systems to locate deadly explosives.
After locating the mines, divers faced the most dangerous task by approaching them underwater and attaching explosives to destroy the weapons.
The Navy also deployed unmanned systems to scan the seabed and neutralise mines while keeping crews out of harm’s way.
The operation carried enormous risks but no US casualties have been reported, despite an estimated 80 mines being placed along the crucial oil route.
