Nearly 30 years after hip-hop legend Tupac Shakur was gunned down in a violent Las Vegas drive-by shooting, a Clark County jury has found former South Side Compton Crips leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis guilty of first-degree murder with a deadly weapon. Following an 11-day trial, jurors deliberated for less than three hours before convicting the 63-year-old ex-gang leader for orchestrating the September 7, 1996 attack in retaliation for a casino fight involving his nephew, Orlando Anderson. Prosecutors relied heavily on Davis’ own recorded interviews, police proffers, and 2019 tell-all memoir, proving he acted as the “shot caller” who secured the firearm and directed the fatal shooting. Davis, who immediately signaled plans to appeal, faces up to life in prison without parole at his scheduled October 13 sentencing.
