Pauline Hanson slams PM after One Nation’s huge win
One Nation has edged past Labor to reclaim its title as the most popular party in Australia, despite Anthony Albanese holding his lead over Pauline Hanson as preferred prime minister.
The latest Newspoll conducted by Pyxis Polling & Insights for The Australian showed One Nation climbing by one percentage point to hold 30 per cent of the primary vote, edging past Labor at 29 per cent, while the Coalition trailed behind at 19 per cent.
The survey of 1243 voters was held in the five days leading up to One Nation’s historic win at the Secret Harbour by-election and captured a period of internal confusion in the populist party over its net overseas migration target.
Pauline Hanson took aim at Anthony Albanese after he launched a blistering attack on the populist party’s credibility during a speech to Labor faithful in Queensland.
“Across the world hard right populists are on the march peddling politics that is dangerous, divisive, and downright dishonest,” Albanese said.
“We simply must defeat them. We owe it to history.”
Albanese described One Nation in particular as having “no serious answers to our problems”.
Pauline Hanson took to social media to accuse Anthony Albanese, alongside Treasurer Jim Chalmers, of being “desperate” and “crossing a line” with their rhetoric.
“No matter how worried Jim and Albanese are about losing their jobs, telling Australians that their democratically elected opponents are ‘dangerous’ and a ‘threat to our country’ invites people to treat them as a threat,” the One Nation leader wrote.
