A 16-year-old girl in Victoria has avoided detention despite being the first teenager charged under the state’s new adult time for adult crime laws. The girl stole a taxi at knifepoint and crashed it approximately two hours after the legislation came into effect. She received an 18-month youth supervision order instead of an adult sentence, with the court citing her troubled upbringing and lack of prior criminal record.
