A car engine fire in Sydney’s Harbour Tunnel during peak hour caused the tunnel to close in both directions around 8 o’clock, bringing traffic to a standstill with delays stretching four kilometres. Drivers were diverted to the Harbour Bridge and Cahill Expressway while emergency crews activated sprinklers and extinguished the blaze. Northbound lanes reopened by 9:20, with southbound lanes taking longer to clear, highlighting how a single incident can cause citywide traffic disruption.
