Jacqui Lambie issues emotional and personal plea over veterans’ health cap
The Senate has voted in favour of dumping a recent budget announcement to cap veterans’ allied health care to $5,000 annually.
It follows an emotional and personal plea from veteran and independent senator Jacqui Lambie, who shared the challenging and often distressing experience some women face when getting the right health care for pelvic organ prolapse.
Pelvic organ prolapse is a common condition in which the bladder, uterus and/or bowel drop from their position and press into the vagina.
Lambie said she began experiencing vaginal prolapse about six months ago, which was connected to back injuries incurred during her military service, but paid $7,000 to have an operation in Canberra due to limited availability of gynaecologists in rural and regional Tasmania.
