Sanctioned Sydney Swans players break silence
Five Sydney Swans players have been stood down for the remainder of the season for breaching the club’s code of conduct.
The AFL club’s CEO Matthew Pavlich says the sanctions are independent of a police investigation over the alleged sexual assault of a woman in a Melbourne hotel room.
He says he’s deeply embarrassed and ashamed.
The sanctioned players have broken their silence for the first time, releasing a statement saying:
“We know we have let down our partners and families, members, supporters, teammates, the AFLW team, corporate partners and everyone at the Club and in the wider community.”
“We accept the Club sanction and apologise for the impact this has had on those involved.”
