Monash University academics deliver powerful statements at royal commission hearing
After taking evidence from hundreds of witnesses and more than 20,000 submissions, the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion started its final block of public hearings on Monday.
Monash University academics Daniel Heller and Farid Zaid, co-directors of the Brave Conversations Project, gave evidence by video link on Tuesday to talk about the power of grief as “nuclear force to cultivate compassion” and uncomfortable conversations.
The pair run workshops aiming to teach students and teachers how to stay in the room when things become difficult.
The project encourages approaching disagreements with humility and not presuming to have all the answers before the conversation has even started.
