Inside Pakistan-controlled Kashmir where an internet blackout hides the truth | The World | ABC NEWS
Between 40 and 90 people have been killed in cities in Pakistan-controlled Kashmir after protesters were allegedly fired on by security forces. The protests are led by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), an activist group calling for better political representation.
Demonstrations reignited in June after the JAAC tried to march from Rawalakot to Muzaffarabad. It is accusing the government of failing to follow through on an agreement the two sides signed last year.
The local government disagrees and has classified the JAAC as a terrorist organisation. It’s also alleged protesters were armed and imposed an internet and mobile blackout.
The ABC is one of just a few news organisations that has managed to report from the ground.
