Who is Zohran Mamdani, the man who could become New York mayor? | ABC NEWS
Residents of New York City are casting their ballots in a closely-watched mayoral election, with Zohran Mamdani favoured to win.
If he does, he would be the city’s first Muslim mayor. The 34-year-old democratic socialist is up against 67-year-old Andrew Cuomo, who’s running as an independent after losing to Mr Mamdani in the Democratic primary contest.
It’s one of several elections taking place, serving as the first major test of Republican Donald Trump’s popularity since the 2024 presidential election.
