The Australian government faces criticism over spending up to $4.2 million on luxury accommodation at three five-star Fiji resorts for a pre-COP31 climate meeting in early October. The event will host delegates ahead of the annual climate conference in Turkey, with the government stating costs will be partially recovered through room charges and payments from foreign delegations including Turkey. The government maintains these resorts are the only appropriate venues to host an event of this scale.
