‘Had a gutful’: ‘Cowards’ attack police with projectiles at Melbourne protests
Police were struck with projectiles such as rocks, glass bottles, and food as they clashed with crowds of opposing protesters taking part in rallies in Melbourne.
Two officers were injured and needed to be hospitalised, and at least one person has been arrested.
“Melbourne has had a gutful,” Victoria Police Acting Commander Wayne Cheesman said.
“The people that came to pick the fight with the police were the issue-motivated groups on the left.
“They’re cowards. They come in face coverings, they come in masks, they come with hoodies on.”
